What is Hydrafacial and what 5 benefits does it have beyond marketing?

Evalúa este artículo

When a treatment becomes popular, it’s inevitable to wonder if everything said about it corresponds to reality. This is the case with Hydrafacial, which is true that many patients ask for it at Canons Clinics. Marketing and hype aside, let me tell you what it is, its benefits, and what to expect if you’re considering it.

What is Hydrafacial and its 5 main benefits

Often in consultations there is doubt about what exactly Hydrafacial is.

First, let me clarify that“Hydrafacial” is a registered trademark. You might see cheaper versions being sold as if they were the same, but they’re not. Especially in terms of results.

Here I’m going to talk to you about the original professional device.

In essence, it is a non-invasive hydrodermabrasion technology for cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing the skin. A procedure of advanced aesthetics that acts at the level of the epidermis and superficial dermis.

As I often say: it lies somewhere between applying high-end dermocosmetics and a medical-aesthetic treatment. Concept of medicine and wellness at the same time:efficacy and medical safety in a pleasant experience focused on holistic care.

It has 5 major benefits:

    • Deep cleans and renews painlessly. It removes dead skin cells, impurities, and excess oil that accumulate over time. It is considerably less aggressive than microdermabrasion techniques such as diamond tip microdermabrasion.
    • Immediate flash effect and intense hydration. It illuminates, nourishes, and hydrates, leaving a radiant, fresh, and supple appearance after just the first session. The famous “glow” that many patients rave about and for which they often return.
    • Improves skin texture, quality and health. It softens, evens skin tone, and reduces pores, comedones, redness, blemishes, blackheads, and other imperfections. It also keeps skin in good condition, strengthening its barrier function.
    • It reduces signs of aging.Hydrafacial improves fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. It’s not like surgery, of course, but it does help to firm and diminish the signs of aging. The face looks plumper, more elastic, and firmer. Youthful.
    • Revitalizes hair. Applied to the scalp, it removes dirt, improves circulation, and moisturizes the hair follicle. It contributes to thicker, stronger, and healthier hair.

Hydrafacial indications and contraindications

In what cases is it recommended for?

Do you like fashion?

There are basic pieces that go with practically everything and elevate any look. A white t-shirt, jeans, a little black dress…

Hydrafacial follows that line in the sense that almost anyone can benefit from it. It has countless indications in facial, body and hair care

It’s very versatile, and you’ll understand why later.

In Canons Clinics we usually recommend:

    • As a basis or reinforcement of other treatments or routines. To enhance results. It is ideal for preparing the skin before any medical-aesthetic procedure or for maintaining the effects more effectively and for a longer duration.
    • To look radiant at special events all year round (“glow-up”). Weddings, graduations, interviews, holiday parties, and other important events. People who want to look their best and feel fantastic.
    • To maintain beautiful and healthy skin in summer. Or to restore it after the holidays. Sun exposure, heat, and sweat cause various types of damage. Dehydration, redness, photoaging… Hydrafacial combats it.
    • To preserve or treat all skin types, including the most sensitive. Suitable for both young and mature women. Men or women who want to care for their skin, improve wrinkles, blackheads, etc. Highly recommended if your skin is dry and dull.
    • For mild-moderate acne or acne-prone skin. Unclogs pores, controls sebum production and helps prevent breakouts, with the emotional benefits that entails: increased self-esteem, confidence, etc.
    • To strengthen and thicken weak hair. It goes very well, for example, alongside the capillary exosomes. To promote hair regeneration. We recommend it before any treatment if we observe any scalp abnormalities.
    • To improve lip aesthetics. It has a lip enhancement (pearls) option with a volumizing effect that works very well as an alternative to traditional fillers. I’ll show you more in the following video.

Is Hydrafacial for Everyone? Debunking a Common Myth

I remember a patient.

Early signs of sagging along the jawline, dull skin, and loss of skin quality. She visited Cànons Clinics to inquire about a facial radiofrequency.

After the assessment, yes. We saw that intensive radiofrequency with microneedles was the most appropriate treatment to firm, brighten, and improve the texture of her face.

But what was happening?

She also was suffering from dehydration, clogged pores, and signs of deterioration. She was coming from a period of intense stress, had been neglecting herself, and was accumulating fatigue.

In situations like this, the problem is that the skin isn’t at its best to respond optimally to a high-intensity treatment. The effects won’t be as good, and you’ll most likely need to repeat the treatment several times.

That’s why I recommended a Hydrafacial previous session. We provide all its benefits and the skin becomes much more receptive.

She initially showed skepticism.

That’s the stigma I think this procedure carries. Some believe that the intention is to “add” or sell, just for economic reasons, when it is precisely the opposite

AsIt improves the skin’s response; its application ends up resulting in fewer sessions than other techniques such as peels, laser, or radiofrequency.

In fact, that was her case and she was very happy with the final result.

It’s a normal question, but lack of ethics should not be confused with versatility. A boundary that we at Cànons Clinics understand very clearly.

It should be avoided or postponed under very specific conditions

That said, Hydrafacial may be contraindicated in specific cases.

For example, if you have active herpes infection, in the area to be treated, we would have to wait for it to resolve. The same as if you’ve been burned, if you have one open wound or you come from a recent aggressive treatment such as an ablative laser.

Rosacea, couperose skin, pregnancy, breastfeeding… Specific conditions should be assessed during a diagnostic medical consultation to ensure maximum effectiveness and safety. Always remember to consult a qualified professional.

How Hydrafacial works and what you can expect

A protocol to reset the skin in 7 steps

Hydrafacial has 3 differentiating aspects.

The first is that it combines the benefits of several treatments to achieve a complete skin reset. All in the same session.

That’s why it’s so versatile:

    1. Lymphatic drainage. A gentle suction to purify the skin of toxins and reduce edema caused by fluid retention. We define the face.
    2. Wet microdermabrasion. Mechanical exfoliation to gently cleanse and remove dead skin cells. Leaves skin silky, even, and radiant.
    3. Gentle chemical peel. It helps unclog pores, reduces blemishes, and improves texture. It leaves skin more receptive to subsequent treatments.
    4. Extraction. We gently vacuum the contents of clogged pores, minimizing their size and appearance.
    5. Booster. One or the other is used to treat specific conditions and enhance results. Fine lines, blemishes, redness… These are serums concentrated with active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, retinol, peptides, and plant extracts.
    6. LED Phototherapy. We pass a red LED light (activates fibroblasts, stimulates collagen, firms) or a blue LED light (antimicrobial action, improves acne and oily skin).
    7. Hydration. We apply an antioxidant-rich serum that hydrates, relaxes, adds a final “glow” and provides protection against external aggressions.

Watch the video below about the extraction phase. You can clearly see how the blackheads and dirt are reduced as we use the machine.

No pain or complicated side effects

The second differentiating aspect: none of the previous steps hurt.

Hydrafacial is a painless suction systemIt cleanses the skin while infusing it with serums, keeping it moisturized and soothed. Vortex-FusionIt’s called that. Or, as a very nice patient told me, “a gadget that sucks and sprays water.”

Nothing to do with manual extractions or dry microdermabrasion with microcrystals.Much more comfortableAnd the power can be adjusted to avoid discomfort on the most sensitive skin.

Boosters? They are absorbed without injections.Zero needles. It is not invasive.

It is a gentle procedure that does not irritate or cause marks. The most common side effect is, at most, slight redness that disappears quickly. Beyond minimal care, there is no recovery period. You can return to your normal routine immediately.

It’s a fantastic alternative for those who want to get into aesthetic medicine, because it’s very safe and it is applied gently on the skin also relaxing.

The treatment is tailored to you, not the other way around.

The third key point of Hydrafacial.

The level of customization is very highIt is a device with multiple possibilities and modes to adapt to the needs and characteristics of each patient.

Especially at 3 levels:

    • Boosters. There are many options to choose from to achieve the desired result. Plus, they keep releasing new ones. At Cànons Clinics, we have most of them.
    • The printheads of the handpiece that we are moving. There are several depending on the desired effect and to be able to adapt to the area to be treated and the type of skin.
    • The LED light. We use red or blue depending on the situation. There are increasingly more studies on their benefits.

Results: when they are seen, maintenance and limits

Let’s get our feet on the ground.

If you get a Hydrafacial, the following is most likely to happen:

    • Results immediately after the 1st session. They look very striking thanks to the flash effect. It brightens the face, improves the overall appearance, and leaves a very pleasant feeling.
    • Progressive benefits that you will see as you keep doing it. Texture, unified tone, expression lines, smoothness, less sebum, balanced and healthy skin, etc.

Anyway,
be aware of unrealistic expectations. Some people have read so many wonderful things about this treatment that they believe it is miraculous.

We can’t expect the impossible.

Hydrafacial is effective, but sometimes something more is needed. A deeper peel, laser treatment, etc. Even surgery. In those cases, as I mentioned before, it can serve as a base or reinforcement, but on its own it falls short.

When properly indicated, applied, and combined, it is very satisfactory for most people. At Cánons, we have patients who already have it as their self-care ritual.

How often is it recommended?

In general, it is advisable to have a monthly session (it takes about 40-50 minutes), although the ideal frequency ultimately depends on the goal and the initial condition of your skin.

Is it just for a celebration? Do you want to enhance therapy? Against severe acne? Would it be combined with a radiofrequency protocol?

It should be valued.

If you’re considering a Hydrafacial…

Do you have doubts about whether you are a good candidate for this treatment?

If you like If you want to see fast results on your skin with a deep cleanse without needles or harsh techniques, Hydrafacial might be just what you’re looking for. As I’ve explained, it offers multiple benefits and can be customized to your specific needs.

Come to Cànons Clinics and we’ll talk. We have a clinic in Barcelona and in Granollers. Tell me about your situation, we’ll see if it’s the best option for you and what the prices are. No obligation.
