Body Hyperhidrosis

What is Hyperhidrosis Body?

Hyperhidrosis is known as excessive eccrine sweat production at one or more levels of our body.It can be caused caused by the sympathetic nervous system causing the body to produce more sweat than needed to regulate body temperature.

There are four types by region: palmar, plantar, axillary and facial. A phenomenon associated with facial sweating is flushing, which consists of episodic increase of facial redness.

Can be hiperhidrosi primary body of unknown origin, or secondary to a disease such as lymphoma, carcinoid tumors, and brain tumors, abnormal thyroid or pituitary gland, mercury or arsenic poisoning, or as a side effect tricyclic antidepressant drugs

What causes it?

It is produced by an over-stimulation of the sympathetic system which is situated parallel to the spine in the thorax, independently from the ambient temperature. In its most severe forms can cause mold, peeling, odor, irritation, and skin pigmentation.

Primary hyperhidrosis affects 0.5-1% of the population. It usually begins at puberty and lasts a lifetime, although excessive sweating usually gets better with age. Up to 40% of patients have another family member with the same condition, so it is considered a hereditary disease.

The excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis can influence the lives of some people why did they have the feeling constantly wet clothes. They are individuals in whom the disease can get to cause them permanent fear at the prospect of meeting people and having to shake hands or simply to see them with sweaty clothes. Those with hyperhidrosis may become withdrawn and may be a cause of social phobia. It also causes difficulty in handling roles, objects, tools, electronics or musical instruments.

What we offer treatment to combat it?

Botulinum toxin has been proven very effective in the treatment of localized hiperhidrosi like underarm or palms. This procedure is generally well tolerated. It works by blocking nerve transmission-level stimulation of the sweat gland.

It is a very safe treatment and a very high effectiveness.

In cases of excessive sweating axillary botulinum toxin injection is well tolerated without local anesthesia.

When applied to palmar hyperhidrosis, as is a more sensitive area can be used cryoanesthesia or cold anesthesia at each injection point.

Keep in mind that the effect of botulinum toxin is temporary, 5 to 6 months in the palms of the hands and somewhat higher, between 8 and 10 months, and underarms. After this time it is necessary to inject. However, there are no contraindications for retreatment.

My daily activities will be altered?

Allows resume your normal activities immediately after each session with creams indicated and the right makeup.

What does surgery offer to combat it?

This is called thoracoscopic sympathectomy performed under general anesthesia. Involves selective endoscopic removal of some sympathetic ganglia, avoiding stimulus that causes excessive sweating of the palms, soles and armpits.

Surgery should only be done in extreme cases when conservative measures have failed before, because it can have side effects such as compensatory excessive sweating back, thighs, knees, excessive dryness or Local anhidrosis and increased sensitivity to cold.
