Laser UrgoTouch: What is it and why do I recommend it to my patients? Medical opinion
Scars are a worry for those about to have surgery and a torment for those who already have them, especially if they’re very noticeable. On the chest, on the arms… On the face. “I want people to look me in the eyes,” one patient told me. Prevention is better than cure. Let me tell you about it.What is a laser UrgoTouch?, its pros and cons and my opinion as a plastic surgeon.
What is laser UrgoTouch and what is it for?
A boost to healing
Imagine you want to open a restaurant.
Studying the location, all the tax and bureaucratic aspects, the construction, the decoration, the menu, the staff… If instead of doing it on your own you have an advisor who is helping you in the process from minute 1, don’t you think you would do better?
Diode laserUrgoTouch is precisely that.
It is a technology that we apply at the end of operations, on the incisions made, to optimize the healing process from minute 1(the “restaurant setup”). It is done right after the suture and with the patient still under anesthesia.
Specifically, it produces controlled heating to activate protective mechanisms. It reduces inflammation and improves collagen arrangement. This is how it helps the skin create healthy, barely visible scar tissue (a “successful restoration”).
What is it for or what benefits does it provide?
-
- Reduces the volume of surgical scars. Up to 53%, according to a laboratory study of 40 breast reduction patients. It was applied to one breast and not the other. At Cànons Clinics, we did something similar. Let me explain.
- More aesthetically, a more pleasing resultflat and discreet. They have a more even tone and a smoother, more uniform texture. They feel less noticeable to the touch and blend better with the surrounding skin. There is less redness in the first few weeks.
- Prevents anomalous scarring. It minimizes the risk of them becoming too thick (hypertrophic scars), extending beyond the incision (keloids), or having a sunken appearance (atrophic scars).
It prevents, it doesn’t correct
It is very important to distinguish.
I have been asked on occasion if the laserUrgoTouchIt can be used some time after the operation. I mean, once the healing process has finished. It has endedAs a “touch-up” or to try to improve the appearance.
The answer is no. We have other specific treatments for those cases.
This teamIt is designed to be the final step in the operation. Its effectiveness lies in preventing unsightly scarring. It helps them heal properly. It makes them as inconspicuous as possible, even before the patient wakes up from anesthesia.
LASH Technology, it is called: laser-assisted skin healing.
This is a fundamental difference compared to the equipment available for correcting existing scars.Once the damage is done, it’s difficult to go back.
Our experience in the clinic with the UrgoTouch laser
Effectiveness: Does it really reduce the appearance of scars?
The million-dollar question.
You see, at Cànons Clinics we are very much in favor of technology and innovation, but only if they are backed by scientific evidence. And above all, if they have a clear benefit for our patients.
This is the case with the UrgoTouch laser.
That’s why we’ve been recommending it for years now.facial plastic surgery, corporal and Dermatological. Also in surgical corrections of bad previous scarring (scar revision surgery)
In our experience, and I’ll show you the results now, it is very effective.Patients are very happy. Especially after procedures that involve large scars, such as a tummy tuck or arm lift.
Furthermore, in my opinion it has a number of other advantages:
-
- It is suitable for all skin phototypes (I to VI). It can be used whether you have white, brown or dark skin.
- Zero pain, one session. It’s applied, as I said, during the surgery itself, right at the end. After we put in the stitches. You go through the closed incision and that’s it. The patient is still under anesthesia, so it doesn’t hurt, it’s not uncomfortable, nothing.
- Very safe. Side effects are few and temporary. At most, some swelling due to its vasodilating action and redness.
- It does not burn the skin. The heat is controlled and we put safety strips that prevent overheating (you can see them at the top of the article).
- It has hardly any contraindications. 2 main ones: skin cancer surgery and periocular area (blepharoplasty for example).
Expectation: Will you definitely be left with an imperceptible scar?
I like to be realistic with my patients.
First, let me clarify that the laserUrgoTouch It does not “erase” or “eliminate” scarsDoes it help prevent them from looking unsightly? Absolutely. Does it make them much less noticeable? Definitely. Almost invisible, even? Sometimes.
But you can’t expect it to leave no trace on your skin. It’s not “magic.”
Because that’s what I always mention in consultations:it is not infallible.
Please note that:
-
- Each person has an individual capacity to heal. Age, illnesses, medications, genetics, immune status… All of these factors influence whether the result is better or worse.
- Multiple factors are involved.Smoking, a poor diet, lack of sun protection, and dehydration are examples of factors that can negatively impact the outcome. The location of the incision and the surgical technique itself are also crucial.
What’s happening?
That UrgoTouch improves your quality of scaring. Creates an environment conducive to increasing the likelihood that YOUR skin develops a good scar.
That’s why some patients get a wonderful, practically imperceptible scar, and other patients in whom the effect is more subtle.
In any case, there will always be an improvement.
To further optimize the result, we take a 360 approach. Essential in my opinion. Nutritional advice, an exclusive program we have at Cànons Clinics with pure argan oil (Kapunka method) and pre- and post-operative care.
Sometimes we use Genesis laser if, during follow-up, we observe that the scar is not progressing well, it stimulates collagen synthesis and helps to fade it.
Laser results: UrgoTouch Before and after
Marks on the face are among the most feared.
Let me tell you about a case. A young male patient comes in for atumor benigno facialLocated on the right cheek. We recommend surgical excision and laser treatment.UrgoTouchto reduce the risk of poor wound healing.
Result after 10 days:Fine scar with no signs of hypertrophy or inflammationThere is no visible swelling or pigmentation. Just slight redness and peeling, which is completely normal in the early stages of healing.
Before and after:
Even though it’s only 10 days after, the scar looks fantastic.
The patient followed the aftercare instructions we gave him during the consultation.
We also apply UrgoTouchfor the scars from breast surgery:
-
- For breast augmentation we already apply state-of-the-art techniques such Preserve. They leave minimal scars. This further reduces their appearance.
- In reducing mammoplasty, in areas where an extensive inverted T-shaped scar is common, this technology is very satisfactory for patients. Very positive reviews.
- In mastopexy, the result is fantastic. No matter they may require an inverted T incision, a vertical + periareolar incision, or just around the areola.
Consider the following case. With prior consent, we used laser treatment on one breast and not on the other to compare its effect.
Periareolar scar 3 months after breast augmentation.
Left side withUrgoTouch, right side without.
A much thinner scar tissue is noticeable with the laser
It also works great in body surgeries.
For example, the patient I’m showing you below came to Cànons Clinics because she wanted to correct the sagging skin on her arms. We used laser lipolysis to remove the fat deposits and with brachioplasty to remove the excess of skin and after that we applied Argo Plasma to improve firmness.
Finally, we applied the UrgoTouch laser.
Result in 4 weeks.
Scar still recent and reddish, but flat, regular and of homogeneous color
Medical opinion on laser UrgoTouch: is it worth it?
Scars are inevitable traces of surgery.
In the operating room, plastic surgeons are very meticulous to ensure the best possible results. Delicate, camouflaged, hidden… But there are factors beyond our control. The patient’s aftercare, their habits, their natural healing capacity, etc.
However minimal, all patients carry a risk of developing a poor scar. In the worst cases, this could be a hypertrophic scar or a keloid. This applies whether it’s their first surgery or not, regardless of their history, or whether they heal well or not.
The aesthetic, functional, and psychological impact can be enormous.
Based on this premise and assuming there are no contraindications,my opinion is: why not use the UrgoTouch laser? It is a technology that optimizes this biological process and reduces biological “randomness”.
If, given your circumstances, you can only achieve a score of 7 out of 10 at most, this will raise you to an 8 or 9 out of 10. You will look better, gain more confidence, avoid the visibility of the surgery… The impact is very positive.
Don’t take the numbers literally. It’s just an example to help you understand.
Are there no exceptions to this procedure?
There are only 2 cases in which I don’t recommend it.We evaluate each patient individually, but in general we do not apply it in:
-
- Surgeries with very small scars. For example, laser lipolysis. The incisions we make are so tiny that they don’t need to be treated.
- Hairy areas such as the scalp.Shaving can be used, but it doesn’t help much since the hair grows back and the scar gets hidden.
Beyond this, we use it in numerous interventions. The aesthetic improvement is clear. And side effects such as redness and swelling are mild and resolve quickly. However, strict adherence to post-operative care is essential.
I can’t tell you the price, because at Cànons Clinics we include it.It depends on what you get it done. I think a medical treatment like laser therapy would be a good option.UrgoTouch should not be ruled out for economic reasons.
Why don’t you ask for an appointment and I ‘ll tell you more at the clinic. If you’re considering cosmetic surgery, I’d be happy to help. You can book an appointment by calling 683 27 07 09, messaging us on WhatsApp, or filling out the form (button below).
